Where can I buy a good router for wireless internet?

I got a laptop a few months ago, and have been looking at the possibility of getting a wireless internet router for my home. We have a normal desktop computer here with internet, but I can't access the internet on my laptop, because the internet currently does not have wireless capabilities. I am interested in buying a router, but really don't know anything about them.

Would someone be able to tell me what a good brand/type of router would be for my home? I don't need an overly expensive one, just one that is reliable and a good price for the money. I don't want to spend too much money, unless I need too.

Thanks for your help! =)

D-Link and Linksys are good brands.

DIR-655: One of the best N router on the market. (I have one and its only flaw is that it tends to restart it self and occasionally drop the connection. Other than that its great.)

Linksys WRT54GL: Probably the most popular Wireless Router in the world. Its G so it will be slower than a N router but unless you have a internet connection fast enough to take advantage of N speeds G will be sufficient.

It can also be modified to run third party firmware so you can track bandwidth, boost the transmit power, etc...

You can get most D-Links at Walmart, Best Buy etc, same with the new model Linksys.

Netgear is also a good brand: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

Depends on your laptop. If it has Wireless N you would want to get a wireless router that has that capability. If it has Wireless G it is slightly cheaper and slower. Brands already mentioned are great options. Probably spend about $30-$40 for a G or $60-$70 for a decent N router

Depends on what you are using all ready to get the internet at home, you may be able to ask your current provider to give you a different router with wireless capability for free. Or tell them you are adding another PC and exchange it for a different one with WiFi.

I have DSL thru ATT an found a 4 port wireless in a thrift store for $10. that works with my service and I swiched it out with no addional charges to my DSL account.

you desire a instantaneous card on your laptop. And no, you do not could desire to plug the router into your computing device - that could defeat the purpose of procuring for a instantaneous router interior the 1st place. instantaneous broadband programs have a tendency to the two be A) yet in a distinctive way of merchandising and marketing satellite tv for pc internet B) a fashion of charging people additional funds for a similar provider

Linksys, D-Link and NetGear are the 3 you will see most commonly in the store. Any store like Walmart or Bestbuy has them.
