how do I say this in Spanish?
"My mother's in the hospital with a broken hip"
(fluent in Portuguese and get along in Spanish. Looking for good natural Mexican-Spanish idiom for this one. thanks.)
Mother? you mean madre or mai, no?
quebrado -- sure, that would be the correct word in Portuguese, but I've heard my Hispanic help use a different word for broken...
and "hip" is English -- what is it in Spanish?
ou mamá, of course.

In colloquial Mexican Spanish it would be Mi viejita ( mi mamacita ) esta en el hospital con la cadera quebrada.
In general Spanish it would bea Mi mama ( madre ) esta en el hospital con la cadera fracturada ( rota )
Hip is CADERA in Spanish
Hope this helps

In Spanish: Mi madre se encuentra en el hospital con la cadera fracturada ... or Mi mama esta en el hospital con la cadera fracturada... the two sentences mean the same but the first one is more formal...In Portuguese: Minha mae ( the a with a ~ above) esta no hospital com a cadeira quebrada
