Eminem fans: "Stan" question! Explain thoroughly!?

First off, thanks for clicking this.

I heard the song Stan and it's crazy. I have a bunch of questions. Everyone answer what you can

please.

1. Why did the radio or the clean version on iTunes edit out "kill" "slit" and "in the trunk" but not "****" or "*****" (sorry for the language.

2. Did this song cause an upset when it came out? Were people angry?

3. Why does the chorus (sung by Dido) have nothing to do with the point of the song? Is she trying to sound like the point of view from Stan? "When I see your picture on my wall, it reminds me that it's not so bad, it's not so bad at all."

I'd really appreciate answers, guys, and thorough. Best answer 10 points.

    1. mostly because the radio versions of songs may still have some cuss words and because kill and slit is refering to killing and this was in the early 2000s where the columbine high school shooting was still a tender subject to be disscused

    2. This song actually did not produce a lot of controversy compared to the other songs on the Marshall Mathers LP but it did cause some due to the killing near the end of the song but most people understodd the true meaning which was fans who idolize famous entertainers to a point of insanity and eminem was just saying that its great that you guys like him but everybody needs to live their own life

    3. It is from the prespective of Stan because of his obsession with Slim Shady and when he talks about when he has a shitty day then he turns on em's songs and he drifts away from the world hence the "it reminds me, its not so bad"

    -Hope this helped

  • 1. Cause it's worst to say I have my girlfriend tied up in the trunk, then f*ck. But radio versions are always wack

    2. No, it was praised.

    3. The chorus says And even if I could it'd all be gray, but your picture on my wall It reminds me, that it's not so bad. The chorus is from Stans perspective and makes sense too.

vv You completely schooled me but Dido's Thank You came out after Stan, like a month after or something and then became a big hit

Well 'kill 'slit' are things that could 'encourage' things. To answer your first question

2nd question: Because they were thinking it was sending kids a bad message (Killing your girlfriend) etc

3rd question: The chorus is from Didos 'Thank you' song, and eminem liked it and wanted to use it.

  • 1. Because hey, hey, hey f**k the R.I.A.A.

    2. Not really I think, because it didn't get much airplay in the US.

    3. She originally wrote a song called "Thank You" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TO48Cnl66w&ob=av2e - which was a really big song before Stan came on. The chorus is brought from there to Stan. I think it reflects how the only thing keeping Stan sane was that picture of Eminem.

Source(s): @Buff: Okay, it didn't become a big hit until later, but yeah Dido's song came first for the most part. Nice catch btw.

    1.) because they can.

    2.) No.

3.) The Chorus fits perfectly with the song. I don't think you fully grasp the meaning of the song. Listen again.

    1. because calling someone a name is not as bad as attacking them i.e. sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me

2 not really, because it was not glorifying the horrible issues it brought up

3 the chorus is the dillusions of his wife/gf who is blinded by love so she can't see whats happening to stan

    1. Those are violent things that give americas poor youth bad ideas.. who cares if you use profanity but god forbid you talk about killing someone and putting them in a trunk.. its edited so the fingers cant be pointed at him the next time so kid decides to do something stupid just because he listens to these songs...

    2. I think anything released by eminem will cause an uproar... thats what he aims to do.. at least thats my opinion.

    3. I dont have any clue... sorry .
