What is the next major programming language?
Just curious. I am thinking of becoming a computer programmer and I was just wondering what the next great language will be. Maybe I can get a jump start, lol.

I think Virtual machines will spark the next revolution in programming languages. In 10 years languages like Java and C# will probably be dominant for just about everything.
I don't think it will be long before all microprocessors have an onboard CLR/VM that is standardized across all chip manufacturers. Intel is already messing around with onboard GPUs, which was unheard of 5 years ago, and I figure a standardized onboard runtime that runs on some kind of Intermediary Language is not that far fetched at this point.

If you mean what new language is the next major one the answer is none. All the languages that are already out there are the ones that will be used to code our software for at least the next 10 years. If you are thinking about becoming a programmer I would start with Basic and C++

I doubt we will see a revolution in the next 10 years, more likely just an evolution.
Of course, revolutions aren't terribly predictable.
