Is there a battery life for an iPod shuffle (the very small ones)? My daughter has had one about 2 years, and?

it seems it won't recharge anymore...

Update:

I looked it over, and there's no way to get inside to replace anything.... I assume it's either outlived its recharge life cycle or there's something wrong with the cord...

You have to contact Apple and send them your ipod to get your battery replaced, you can't replace it yourself. This happens to all ipods and it's one of the reasons people buy new generations when they come out. Here is a website with more info.

The iPod battery is guaranteed for 300 charge/recharge cycles. You can send you iPod to Apple - be sure to back up all of your music first - and Apple will replace the battery (I think the cost is $80 US). Here's the good news: Apple has the option of either fixing or replacing the iPod. In every single incident that I've read, Apple has chosen to replace the iPod with a newer version of the same product. Another tact: Apple will give you a 10% recycle discount - using your old iPod - on the purchase of a new product.

This goes for every battery that has ever existed, things just die. Each battery can only take so many recharges, then it just stops working. A few months back my MP3 player battery blew up. I smelt the smoke coming out of my MP3 player, it really sucked. Your daughter's iPod battery is fatal, it won't be recharged anymore. You'll have to either buy a new battery and set it in yourself, buy a new iPod, or ask for a repair at some shop and say to them that you need a new battery.

Generally, yes they do have a limited battery life, but if it just stopped charging 'overnight' then chances are very likely to be the charger or cable. (I work at a large electronics supplier and 95% of the time it isn't the ipod, its the charger or cable).

So I would recommend trying a friends charger AND cable (so you can rule out both and have a definite conclusion)

If you don't have access toanotherr charge/cable, go into your nearestt electronics store and buy a new cable and charger. try them out and see if it fixes the problem. If it still doesn'tnt work, then return the charge/cable and get a new ipod, if it fixes the problem then voila.

Note that if it is a 2-yr old ipod shuffle, chances are that the new cable/charger would be about 30-50% of the cost of a new ipod, so you may want to consider just buying annother..

    Hope this helps,

    Michael
