Do Apps slow down my Android phone?

I installed a task killer on my HTC Desire and every time I open it there are loads of apps that seem to running that I installed but haven't used for a few days eg the Vonage or Gesture Search apps. Why/how do these apps open by themselves and do they slow the rest of my phone down by opening like this? I kill all apps several times a day but they open right back up again

On many smartphones, having lots of apps running will cause a slowdown...the difference u have with a desire is 2 fold,

Firstly, the desire has a super fast 1ghz processor and tonnes of RAM so even if u have lots going on, the phone can keep up with it!

Secondly, android is a very clever system, and even tho many applications may show to be running in the taskiller, the system automatically puts the app to sleep so they are using next to no memory or battery power! Also, when android senses that it is running low on memory it will shut down the open apps that are less important or are used least!

Like u I installed a taskiller when I first got my desire as it seemed logical that all these apps running would have negative effect, but after some research and learning all this I uninstalled it and can say that I have suffered no slow down...no loss of battery life...nothing! Plus the advantage that when I go to do something like browse the web etc, it just switches to it quickly rather than having to open the app from cold!

    Uninstall the taskiller...trust me!

I even have been utilising Nokia Lumia 710 and actually have a Samsung Galaxy S3. In any OS whether it fairly is homestead windows, Linux, mac, or Android, in case you place in lots of apps+video games then ofcourse it is going to slower the functioning velocity of the equipment. yet for my area i think that samsung galaxy s3 turns into plenty slower , infact any android gadget turns into plenty slower whilst in comparison with homestead windows gadget

To get started locking down your apps, you’ll need to download LEO Privacy Guard from the Play Store. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be introduced to what the app has to offer.
