Is it possible that my sister is not related to me?

I have never felt connected to her in any way. We have nothing in common. We don't even look the same. I can't tell her anything. I feel like she doesn't care about me. When I looked at our two pictures side by side, not one feature matches up. The same thing happened with our family picture, she doesn't look like me, my mom, or my dad. I even asked all of my closest friends and they think the same thing. No, I am not a crazy teen mad at my sister. I am 23 years old and just need some answers. Who can I ask about this. Is it legal for me to go to the hospital where my mom said she was born and ask them about it? Will theat let me see the records?

I doubt they would let you see the records without one of your parents' consent. You made the statement "where my mom said she was born..." as if you don't entirely trust her word. Could it be that you suspect your parents haven't been totally forthright? T'he best place to go would be to your parents. It could be that there is a secret that is being kept to "protect" you and your sister (such as infidelity or adoption).

The truth is that she may have similar features to other relatives beyond your parental and sibling scope such as an aunt or cousin. Not all family members always share physical features. And as sad as it is, not all family feels a bond or connection like in the books or movies. Some siblings are just so different (one an introvert while the other is an extrovert, one a partier while the other is a workaholic), they don't feel a connection. It happens, and that could be what's going on with you and your sister. The truth is that only your parents will know the answers you seek.

Anything is possible, however most likely no probable. You can request a copy of both yours and your sisters birth certificate. The hospital may not be willing to go into their archives to look for a birth records because you think that maybe you are not related. Pictures mean nothing, I have a sibling that looks like he was found under a cabbage patch, but the is related and looks very much like a Great Grand parent, the rest of us look like our parents. Actually, if you mother has told you that she is your sister, and she is not questioning it you might want to leave it alone after all feelings mean nothing, I have a sister, that has hated me all my life because I was born, she would have hated who ever that child was, we looked very much alike as children, but as adults people noticed differences.

I have felt all the same thing as you, But it doesn't matter anymore. I have many friends and although

I've been told we are missing something, I have no feelings of loss. My point - having a family resemblance doesn't mean you have anything in common. At 23 maybe you should allow the natural drifting that happens in some families to occur and more on.

    > Is it possible that my sister is not related to me?

    Sure.

One or the other of you could be adopted.

One or the other of you could be the result of a fling.

Go to the library, have the librarian show you how to use the microfilm reader. In the newspaper, under "Births" or "Vital Statistics" or "Vitals" it should say "On the third, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. John Smith". They are usually 1 - 5 days after the event, and they sometimes run 3-4 days in a lump. They get to the newspaper before the child is named, usually.

If you find yourself and your sister, chances are you are biological sisters, or half-sisters at least. If you don't, ask your parents about it. Note that if you and she are half-sisters and your dad doesn't know, he may be annoyed.

ABSOLUTELY NOT will the hospital show you the records!

    HIPPO law (in USA)

There are a lot of variations in brothers and sisters particularly if the parents are different.

No, they will not show you the records. You can ask, but it is a waste of time.
