Can adware or a virus type the word "porn" in to our search box?
My husband CLAIMS to have not looked at a porn site, however, the site was looked at and the actual site was TYPED in to a seach box on our computer (our search box saves recent searches).
My husband says that adware or a virus can put things in to your search box and make it seem like you've been to that particular site. Meaning that the word "porn" magically appears in a search box and gets clicked on. This is what he says adware and a virus can do....
Now, I'm NOT stupid. Can others please confirm that I'm not an idiot. I know you have to physically TYPE things in to the seach box.....ghost virus hands don't just come out and type on my keyboard.
Thank you.

Actually it's totally possible, just not very likely.
Also, "I got a virus" is the #1 used excuse for the porn goers who have no idea how computers work.
Adware that would run a script to type into a search engine would usually search for a specific site rather than search for just "porn".
Sounds like your man needs to learn how to "delete history" (or private browse).

Not to defend what he has said. A virus or malware will normally open these sites, however is the computer has file sharing, I could put a bot file on the computer that actually would type these in a web browser search box and give the computer an enter command. Gamers online use a lot of bot files. But you are right for being suspicious about this. It would be highly unlikely it was done on it's own.

It IS possible for a virus or other malware to simulate typing. You've heard of a macro, right? Great time-savers, you use a short command and it automatically types something longer for you. Well a "bad" program could do the same thing without your permission.
Now why someone would make a virus that types "porn" into search boxes... I have no idea. But they could.

There are virus that can open up porn sites, but none that I have ever heard of or seen that can type into a search box. They're programmed just to automatically open up the sites. I had this virus one time that opened up this pornographic pop up every 10 minutes. That could explain the site history. But I think you've got him cornered at the part where he says he didn't type it.
Your husband just wanted to look at porn and lied to you about it. He's the idiot. haha

Hate to tell ya... But if i were to say send you an innocent looking email... And you open it... I could gain control of your computer from the comfort of my home... Knowing what hackers can do is a scary feeling and makes me relieved im married to one.
It is absolutly possible that your husband is telling you the truth

No a virus would not due that, they commonly do open pornographic sites, but it directly opens those sites, not searches for them. Tell him next time to use private browsing.

That is one of the lamest excuses I've ever heard! Is he ashamed of it or is he not supposed to be doing that? I just don't understand why he would lie...
