Activated charcoal takes care of chemical poisonings; it has been proven. But if you get food poisoning, will activated charcoal work to stop it?

The reason charcoal is so amazing in neutralizing poisons is because of the 6 element on the periodic table, Carbon. Carbon is a simple element and has a valence of 4 which means if that basically carbon is able to and wanting to hook up with every element or compound it can find. This is also why carbon is the building block of life, it's so easy to use.

For our purpose though, carbon is like a swifter sweeper running through your body collect all of these toxins. After the carbon has attached to something, the body then excretes it out. The bacteria that cause infections though would be like the size of a large cruise ship... actually bigger but this is a metaphor. The carbon just can't do anything about grabbing a hold of a bacteria. Your body uses antibodies which are 1000's times bigger than carbon and WBC's to destroy bacteria.
