Does anyone know if FMLA allows employment leave for divorce or separation or to provide and find child care?

For the state of Washington

Update:

Okay, gotcha on that but what about the spouses (not me) mental health, i.e. depression etc.. over the divorce?

What would one research for personal leave aspect in the state of Washington?

    FMLA is for medical leave, not personal leave. It doesn't apply for any of those things. Employers will often offer personal leave of absence, though that's voluntary on their part. Union requirements may vary.

    ADD: Depression over a divorce is NOT sufficient for FMLA. It is for medical conditions that leave somebody physically unable to work for an extended period of time. We're talking major surgery, childbirth, chemotherapy, cardiac rehabilitation after a heart attack - that kind of thing. Depression would not cut the mustard unless the person was hospitalized for it or getting intensive therapy in an outpatient program.

    Personal leave depends on the employer. Each company will have different policies.

    FMLA doesn't provide leave for divorce or separation. Nor is to find child care covered unless the child is sick. Here is what it does cover.

    for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee;

    for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care;

    to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or

    to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.
