I think I hold a little East Coast bias in rap as with boxing, but I know many great rappers come from different places. The South has Outkast. The West Coast has Snoop. The Midwest gave us Common, who makes my top 10.

Brooklyn has given us the most great rappers...Jay Z, B.I.G., Fabolous, Lil KIM, Whodini, Mos Def and Talib Kweli etc

JON, The West has certainly contributed a lot but that peroid of supremacy was a small period. Hip hop was created in NY (late 1970s) and elevated in NY (86 Rakim/ KRS 1)...the rapper I mentioned were just from one area in NY...what about Wu Tang Clan from State Island, Public Enemy, RUN DMC (without them we might not be having this conversation because they put rap on MTV), Big Daddy Kane, EPMD...A Tribe Called Quest, de La Soul, Lauryn Hill, 50 Cent, Big Pun, Fat Joe, Big L, Ja Rule...and on and on...

You cant judge the best rapper by albums sold because that might make Eminem or Tupac the best but those albums are bought many times by people who arent primarily hip hop fans and have no knowledge of real hip hop...these are the people who bought NWA, Tupac and 2 Live Crew simply because the controversy surrounding them...not because they were the best in rap.

Sean G is right, the East has produced the most rappers, that is were hip-hop started but Rap music exploded to another level thanks to the West Coast, we revolutionized Rap and it's production to another level, if u noticed all those thug gimmicks that were invented in the west coast, were all copied and used by other regions thanks to us. I mean who did not have the chronic album in the early 90's?

The east does produce better lyricists but I have to stay with the west because that is were I am from

Tupac Shakur in my opinion is the greatest rapper of all time He has sold more albums than any other rapper ever. he is in the Guinnes Book fo World Records. He is easily the most controversial rapper ever and also the most intelligent and poetic.

THE WEST COAST RAP IS THE BEST IN MY OPINION. BUT I AM BIAS BECAUSE I LOVE TUPAC SHAKUR. WEST COAST RAPPERS SUCH AS ICE TEA, ICE CUBE, TUPAC, DR. DRE, SCARFACE, THE GAME, NWA, EAZY E, VANILLA ICE, MC HAMMER, SHOCK G, TOO SHORT, KURUPT, CYPRESS HILL, XHIBIT, DJ QUICK, THE D.O.C, NATE DOGG, SPICE 1, AND WARREN G ALL PUT WEST COAST ON THE MAP AND OUTSOLD EAST COAST AND DIRTY SOUTH DURING THEIR TIME OF SUPREMACY EASILY!
