Why are boomerangs painted?

Hi everyone! :)

I am just wondering, why are boomerangs normally painted with an aboriginal decoration? The boomerangs I'm talking about are the one aborigines used. :)

Please help, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks,

Elaine

Update:

Oh, and I also want to know what the colours yellow and red represent. :)

Aboriginal people are made up of many different tribes.Their artwork has a lot of symbolism and meaning. That's the real artwork not the the chinese made tourist rubbish.Black represent the people, red the earth, yellow the sun.
