Is there such a thing as a "hypnotized state"?

I've always thought they were made up or something along those lines and i've been told by a psychology teacher they are made up, but last night there was a TV show that seemed believable untill they put somebody into a hypnotized state and moved them, i was wondering why ruin the believability of the show by putting something made up in there. I'm 98% sure they're made up but would like somebody (WHO KNOWS) to tell me...

Update:

In this program a man was made to sleep then was moved to another location then woken up again, this kind of hypnotism is lies right?

Hypnotism is very real, it's just the way it has often been portrayed in tv and movies that tends to be exaggerated. For instance, if you're ever driving home at night and are extremely tired, you might find yourself getting entranced by the tail lights of the car in front of you or even the yellow line down the center of the road. That's hypnotism! I honestly don't know a lot about hypnotism, but the principles and techniques it is based upon are very real.

As to whether or not you can "control" someone or make them do crazy things, I really don't know. However, there have been records of a person having heightened perceptions from hypnotism, due to their brain focusing more keenly on specific things.

Sometimes I like to think that by eliminating layers of consciousness we are allowed to unlock more of our brains true potential that is constantly being held back by our own conscious limitations.
