Survey: Am I the only one who couldn't care less if some nutjob wants to burn the Quran?
Yet the papers seem oddly bothered...perhaps they are fearing some sort of anti paper trend and fear their rags might be next

What gets me about people like this nutjob is the people they are meant to offend and provoke succeed in offending and provoking them by their response with counter threats, etc. If everyone just kept quiet about it and didn't pay it any mind and got on with their insignificant little lives like the rest of us, then there would be a lot less problems in the world. Plus another thing is if you have true faith,
A: You wouldn't be burning anything.
B: You wouldn't be responding to such acts of burning.
Surely everything is in Gods hands, right?

It seems to me that the world has forgotten about the Muslims who burnt a large quantity of 'Holy Bibles', about a yea or so ago.. Furthermore, Barrack Obama's intervention, once again, is a direct violation of what America stands for.. "Freedom of expression".. If on nut wants to burn a few books - BIG DEAL.. If Muslims aren't big enough to see what it's all about - TOUGH..
What bothers me, more than anything else, is the potential to spark off a global conflict, and a conflict which could have serious world wide consequences... All for a book.!
Maybe the 2012 prophecies will prove to be true. Maybe we, the human race. are bound on an immutable course to our own Armageddon.. Maybe, just maybe, the world will end in 2012.. Destroyed by muslim extremists, and American lunatics...

I'm bothered. I don't care that it's the Qu 'ran, but I care because it's spreading religious hatred and ignorant Muslims are accusing America of it, when it is some cult-like church. It's giving extremists another reason to kill.
Even if they were Bibles, it doesn't mean anything. Until they're blessed, they're just paper and ink.

Well hello you :)
It's more of a worry for soldiers who could become even more of a target or others working over in the middle east. I think American religious extremists are just as bad as muslim extremists and they are putting their countries to shame on both sides. Religious people cause more wars than anyone.

"Yet the papers seem oddly bothered"
The papers care about readership. If they need to create more drama to get readers, they will do it.

There's not a media bod in the world who wouldn't like to single-handedly whip up a moral panic.
All that media theory - it's what it does to them.

It's ink and paper, burn it, I say, and throw a Bible, a Torah, a Talmud, a Kalpa Sutra, a copy of the vedas, Upanishads, Manusmriti, Srimad Bhagvatam, Bhagwad Geeta, and just for good measure, a copy of Origin of Species.
Books are books, they're made of paper and ink. Using fire to break the chemical bonds of these substances is not inherently 'evil'.
The spirit in which it is done can be evil, but the spirit in which it is done can ALSO lead to many more evil things. Burn books, fine, it's your right to expression, just leave it at that.
