Just purchased a new PS3... is this normal?

I just got a new PS3... I think it's the "newer" slim design. Everything works, but when playing for less than an hour, I noticed that when I ejected the game disc... it was HOT! Then, I felt the bottom of the system, and it was also QUITE HOT! Is this normal for the PS3? I've never owned the PS3 before (I have a PS2 and a PS1, but those systems never heated up this much). Any other PS3 owners out there have this same problem? Is it normal? Should I be concerned? Thanks...

The top of the console near the back should be hot since that is where the exhaust exits the system and the bottom of my slim is also hot which is normal as it has been like that since I got it last October.

Ive read that from quite a few places about the slim making discs very warm, the answer that i read that made the most sense was something to do with where the disc drive is located right above the cpu which generates a lot of heat which in turns heats up the discs. To be honest i have never ejected a disc after ive been playing for a while so i have no comparison with the old fat ps3's

It is normal if you have your ps3 in a closed area where it has to place to breath, just try to keep your ps3 in a open area for example where I have mine it all by itself it gets pretty good ventilation and I also put it in a cool surface I used to have it in a wooded surface and it got hot like he'll specially on the bottom back but I changed it to a cooler area and now I'm able to play 16 hours straight or more with slight heating

And font worry about the YLOD in the ps3 slim there's has been not report whatsoever about the YLOD on a slim version so far that I know

Source(s): I've left my ps3 on for more that 3 days with no problems (damn internet connection was to slow to download a 3gb games XD)

What's the temperature in your room, living room ;etc? cux if the ps3 don't have enough ventilation will start overheating and get the *YLOD* Yellow Light Of Death. If you put your ps3 next to other electronics that create heat that's a problem too 8/ --- IF YOUR crib is cool and your ps3 is away from the electronics atleast 2 feet all the way around,,, then that's a malfunction from the system,,, don't send it to the store but to sony be ready to hand over your receipt cux that the warranty you only have to prove you bought it...

PS3tm Slim will create heat yes but it shouldn't be too hot.

yep it is normal i have a ps3 slim i would recomend not to touch it or turn it while it is hot you could put to much pressure on the system and damage it the ps3 slim is designed to keep it cooler and it has a huge fan in it so dont be scared that it will overheat also keep it clean by using non static wipes and use a low powered vacume on the vents 1 time a week or so to help it from not getting dust stuck in the system.

I think its somewhat normal... I know on my friends playstation3 if it gets too hot it says something on the screen instead of just waiting untill it melts and you have to buy a new one...

Make sure its out in the open and not in a corner, cubby, shelf, or up against a wall...

what I do is I use the box it came with and put it on the floor... I use the box because if its directly on carpet it can overheat and it raises it so I wont accidently step on it.

you could wait or flow out and get a Wii at present. this device rocks. Zelda must be the total recreation of all time. The inavative Wii distant makes the device and as continually, the video games are why you should by technique of the device. So the device with the total video games is a thanks to flow. purchase a Wii.
