Dog food recall? The new August 2010 dog food recall includes some of the top rated dog food brands.?
How can we be sure the food we buy is healthy and safe for out dogs? I switched to Blue Buffalo because I thought it was better than Purina Pro Plan. Now I find out Blue Buffalo is on the recall list. Many of the best rated foods are on that list. Purina brands have never been on the recall list. The food is made in the USA. I know the ingredients in Purina Pro Plan are not as highly rated as Blue Buffalo, but at least it was safe. What can I do to find a safe, healthy food for my dogs? I can not afford to make my own. I don't even buy meat for myself.
dogfoodanalysis.com is the site where I got the information about how good Blue Buffalo and Blue Wilderness are. Many of the brands listed on that site are now on the recall list!
It was a site from the Humane Society. They listed all of the brands on the newest recall list.
Go to 2010 dog food recall list. Click on Pet food recall Products list. It is the FDA US Food and Drug Administration list of recalled foods: Current 8/01/2010 You will see Blue Buffalo, Blue Wilderness and many other top brands.
In checking again, the Blue Buffalo food is canned food and is dated best used by April 2010. I want to be sure I give out all of the facts, but to be sure I am buying the best food, it worries me that a company ever had a recall.

Can you post a website for the recall list? Because I am trying to find it but the only recalls I can find are for Iams, Eukanuba, and Merrick.
EDIT: I really must be missing something. This is the only recall list I can find on the humane society's website http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/fac... I just want to make sure my dog's food isn't being recalled. I feed him Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed. I tried typing in "Blue Buffalo recall" as well but everything that came up was from a few years ago.
Thank you, I think I finally found it: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/newpetfoodre... I just want to clarify that being on this list does not mean the food is being recalled right now, it just means that it has been recalled at some point since 2007. The website states, "This compiled list represents all pet food recalled since March 2007. If and when new information is received, this list will be updated. The "Information Current as of" date provided above indicates when this Web page was updated; it does not indicate the date when the pet food recalls listed below were initiated. Once listed, each of the recalled pet food products remains listed, even if there are no new recalls associated with that product."
If you are still looking to switch, Wellness has an excellent line of foods and I don't believe it has ever been recalled I typed in Wellness pet food recalls and nothing came up and even searched for it on the FDA and Humane Society websites but there were no matches. It is very high quality and even rated higher on dogfoodanalysis.com than Blue Buffalo, yet the price is the same.
* I completely understand. Past recalls worry me too.

You are unfortunately not reading the FDA website correctly. To the left of each entry is the year that the food was recalled. You will see that most of the foods you have listed have a date of 2007.
There have been very few recalls since then.
I recommend knowing how to read the listings before posting on Y/A,

Can you please include a link to a website or article with Blue Buffalo included in the recall?
ADD: I am sorry I have to doubt your source. According to the FDA website there has not been a recall on any Blue Buffalo product since 1997.
ADD: POST A LINK!!! No one wants to follow your crazy scaveneger hunt to find the information.

Check out dogfoodscoop.com or dogfoodanalysis.com. They both give tons of organized, unbiased information about nutrition, sources, quality, ingredients, price, and recalls. They also rate dog food brands, so it's easy to tell which are considered the best and worst.
I love Taste of the Wild. It's always top-rated, it's high-protein/grain-free, and it's much cheaper than the other top foods.
Good luck! :)

There was a recall on purina a few years ago too. And no, cheap food is not safe. Cheaper foods contain NASTY stuff like rotten meat and chemicals that cause liver damage, foods that cause diabetes, etc.
If Blue Buffalo is being recalled, try something else like: Orijen, Acana, Wellness, etc.

It is can and their biscut products. It does not include their dry. I have fed it since it came available in our area. Just look up Bluebuffalo recall, all the info is their, even a nice tidbit on science diet.

halo dog food has never been recalled, is made of human-grade ingredients, holistic, no by-products or rendered meats ... made in a factory that only makes halo food ...

I know lots of people don't like Science Diet b/c they think there is a conspiracy going on w/ the vets and the company...however that is the ONLY thing I will every feed my cats and have NEVER had any problems with it. Science Diet has only had one recall EVER and that was back in 2007 (when the huge pet food recall happened) and it was a precautionary recall. No animals got sick off of the recalled product. Plus what they recalled were only their Savory Cuts canned cat food. That was the ONLY thing they have ever recalled. This is another reason that I will always stick w/ Science Diet.
