Epidural steroid injection on elbow?

Followup appointment. is Monday. First appointment was a month ago and my elbow still hurts. I havent lifted weights in a month now, tried doing a tricep exercise today and it still hurts. My orthopedic offers epidural steroid injections and hopefully ill get one on my second visit on Monday. Will i be able to start lifting weights again next monday? (week from injection)

Update:

will i gain weight? hopefully i do since im a bodybuilder

Update 2:

i was offered one on my other elbow since i had tennis elbow. so yes there for elbows as well.

The epidural space extends up to the foramen magnum, and we do give epidural steroid injections in the cervical region.

What they do is, if you have spinal nerve root inflammation from irritation from a bulging disc, it can decrease the inflammation. Some people get relief, some don't, but it's usually worthwhile to try it before proceeding to surgery. Surgery will keep you from lifting weights for a few months.

If the injection is in your elbow, then it isn't epidural. It's intra-articular (in the joint).

Also, they're different steroids. Google corticosteroids vs. anabolic steroids. If you gain weight, it will be belly fat, probably not what you're looking for, and the dose isn't going to be high enough to do that anyway.

Source(s): I've done cervical epidural steroid injections a few times. Not anymore, though.

The epidural space is around the spinal cord. would not help your elbow unless your pain is from an irritated nerve root. Risky in the neck. This kind of steroid does not put muscle on you, it takes it off. They are talking about drugs similar to , but more potent than, cortisone. Not an anabolic hormone. They inject elbows with steroids, but in that case it is not called epidural. Epidural refers to a specific place. Look it up.

And stop arguing with the Nurse.

epidural is to the spinal chord, not the elbow.

I think you mean steroid injection into your joints to reduce the inflammation that you have due to strenuous workout. steroids combined with rest are good therapy for you case. i suggest you to rest until all the inflamed and injured tissues are completely healed before lifting. I know you have to weigh risk and benefits of your actions; weightlifting or pain?

    best of luck

Epidural space is in spine area, not elbow.
