Have teams 1 thru 3 ever lost the first round of the NRL Finals?
Since the Panthers and Tigers have lost their first round games, I was wondering if, under the current Finals system, teams seated 1 through 3 have ever lost their first round matches to teams 6, 7 and 8?
Yes, I know the Dragons haven't played Manly yet but I thought I'd ask the question anyway.

Dave is right, I do know. The current system has been in place since 1999.
Teams 1 thru 3 have never all lost their finals week 1 matches.
Team 1 has only lost to Team 8 twice (last year, Dragons v Eels, and in 2008, Storm v Warriors).
Last year, Team 2 won (Bulldogs v Knights).
In 2008, teams 2 and 3 both won, with the Sharks beating the Raiders, and Manly beating the Dragons.
The third answer is referring to 2004. The Panthers beat the Dragons on the Friday night (4 beating 5), then the Storm beat the Broncos (6 beating 3) and the Cowboys beat the Bulldogs (7 beating 2)

Two of the top 3 sides have lost their first final match . A few years ago the Dragons finished 5th and were eliminated in the first week. cant remember which two of the 3 teams that finished 6th, 7th or 8th won
