Why do people think that Egypt was a black nation?

Well it's in Africa.

IDK Egypt ranged from dark skinned people (Sub-Saharan Africans) and light skinned people (Middle easterners) it was a multiethnic place. Also there was no such thing as race back then. People intermixed all the time and there were no accounts about discrimination towards a certain skin color or nation to be honest. Even the Greek empire was a mixed nation too. They had the indigenous people and foreigners (mostly from the middle east) and Carthage was mutlicultural too.. I hate the fact how they portrayed Egypt in a movie as if it was a European nation using some white actress to play as Cleopatra. Or when they make movies about sparta or Athens they need to include different groups of people because that's more accurate. Alot of the powerful empires were not one ethnic group (China is excluded) they were usually multiethnic and the people assimilated well.

EDIT: Egypt was already established as an empire before the Greeks came and before Arabian conquest.

They make assumptions on the basis of the fact that it is in Africa.

Ancient Egyptians, like modern Egyptians, would have been of various colors, owing to the location. Some of them would have been quite dark, others would have been as light-skinned as Europeans, and still others would have fallen somewhere in between on the color scale.

it's funny that in ancient times everyone in greece and rome (europe) were supposedly white...but all of a sudden everyone in egypt (africa) is white also!..we can't even be black in the motherland!....give it a break!

Because it was. I read extensively about Ancient Egyptian civilization for a year long project last year, and they share the same genotype as Ethiopians (at least ancients do). Modern day Egyptians of course are mixed from the conquest of Arabs, etc. But they still choose to identify as Egyptian, not Arab.
