PLEASE HELP! PC operating system problem?

I downloaded windows 7 to try out on a "vista" laptop. Then I used Daemon tools to mount the image file. Then I started install... Then at the "completing install" stage (the last stage among the 4 or 5 stages) it stopped (I think) at the bottom of the screen (the installing bar thing). Did it stop? or is it just taking long? It's a pretty good laptop.

But that's not the big problem. I (the idiot) held the power down to see if it would restart and continue reinstalling... But obviously it didn't. It said in the middle of the screen "setting up services" or something... Then it would just come up with a message saying ... ... ... "press OK to restart and continue install" then after trying that several times that message dissappeared... and now it would just restart and go back to that "setting up services" and restart again automatically - constantly. How could I fix this? without losing the pictures being lost? (I'm so gonna die).

I have searched all over the internet for answers but had to post this up to see if you guys had the answer. I beg you - This is my girlfriend's Mum's laptop... Please help me.

Update:

Thanks so much for the help guys!

I put windows 7 iso onto usb hdd and used ultra iso to make it bootable.

Then inserted it into the affected laptop and started it. I put boot priority for FDD (USB HDD) and then saved changes and then restarted and hit f12 on the laptop which directed me to multiboot... I started boot from the USB HDD and then it started the installation procedure. I installed it onto the 3rd partition (where partition 2 held the original Vista OS, and where I failed to install Windows 7).

I was obviously forced to make a dual boot system... So now I am in the "working" windows 7 OS... praying to God that I have not lost the "windows.old" folder which consists of the pictures e.t.c. Epically it's still there, within "My Computer", "D-Drive Vista"!!!

I am now currently using my flash USB HDD to copy all the 59 GB worth of files and transferring them on to my personal laptop, just incase!

I will then check the "other previously failed Windows 7 install" by restart

Update 2:

.... restarting the laptop to check if it works.

If it does somehow revert the system back to the Vista OS then that's great. If it don't then it's still great... Now that I will be backing up all the files!

Now my big mission now is to get rid of the dual boot thing and keep a single booted Windows 7 OS!

If you guys have any tips on that... It would be very appreciated... Thanks to both of you epically rapid resposive humans! LOVE U!

If you didn't create an extra partition to install Windows 7 on, you aren't going to get those files back, they are wayyyyyyyy gone.

If you did create an extra partition, use another computer, and burn a iso of Windows 7. Boot from it, and do a custom installation, on the partition that you set Windows 7 up on. When it is done, you can boot to Vista.

When you pressed the power button to turn off the lap top and the install you lost the ability to connect to the internet to continue the install. This corrupted the install and now to fix the problem you will need a disc set for the original Vista install, the disc set is called the recovery disc set. Or you will have to order the Windows 7 operating system installation disc set from the site (hopefully Microsoft) you downloaded Windows 7 from and do a clean install of Windows 7 using the disc set. Any files picture etc are now lost if they where not backed up to CD's or a external hard drive.
