concil tax band, how to change?
I had a local estate agent knock on the door recently and they informed me that some of the houses on my street were in the wrong tax band at moment mine i band C, he said it should be band B. He said he could not help me because i had not lived in the house for 4 years yet. I looked on the VOA website but I can not apply as i do not fit any of the circumstances for appeal. How else can I go about an appeal??

Kernow Lady is correct about the process, but there is one thing you need to be aware of. The banding can go up as well as down. If previous owners made improvements (eg extension, conservatory, loft conversion, fitted double glazing, etc) these may have improved the value for council tax purposes which could push the banding up.

Contact the Council. You can appeal no matter how little or long you have lived there. I did within the first 12 months of buying my last house. An officer came around, inspected my house and changed the band.

you need to speak to the local council who deal with it, and question this.. if it is in the wrong banding it will be changed.. but then again theyre not going to take the word of a estate agent who knows nothing about council tax only that u have to pay it
