My L-top sound does not work, what to correct?

The sound system says that it is working but I cannot hear voice or music. Have looked at the control panel and it is not on mute. About a year ago I had to download another sound manager like SOUND MAX from TOshiba for the Windows XP and that did the trick .... any suggestions for this antique L-top to get it working again. Thanks.

    Hey XTX:

If your laptop is a toshiba, then go here: http://support.toshiba.ca/support/Download/ln_byMo...

and download the audio driver. If not then you can search the net by enetering your laptop model number and find the right audio drivers for it.
