How did the Ocean get its waves?

Im making a native american myth story type thing but it dosent have to be tied into native american culture. I got the idea of what im gonna write about, How the ocean got its waves but I dont know how, or other stuff like all the details.. all you creative people plz help me out.!! =P

    Don't do that. It is disrespectful to our peoples. We are still here in the world. We are not all dead. Our legends and histories are still relevant and important to us. Don't make fun of them, and us.
