What should I do about this job offer situation?

I just got hired today at Safety Pro, Inc as an office manger. After I accepted the offer, they told me that it would cost $60 to be on the payroll, do a background check with training involved. They did not tell me how long the training is, and if there is any additional cost involved. I told them, I will think about it, and get back to you soon. They responded to hurry before the position is filled. The company did not even ask for my resume or reference even though they requested me to bring it prior to the interview. So what do I do? Is this a scam or this is for real that I am lucky to get hired?

    my opinion?

    they're a scam

no employee should have to pay for their own background check and to be on the company payroll

This is not legit. You never have to pay to be on payroll, and if you did have to pay for a background check, those fees would be taken out of your first paycheck. You NEVER pay this upfront.

And NO company in the world is going to employ anyone as an office manager without a resume or references. EVER.

In this economy employers have their choice of employees and you don't think they are going to look for an office manager who has the most experience with a top company over someone they know nothing about?

Don't respond to them - report this to your state Attorney General's office and Labor Department as they are breaking the law by asking you to pay them to be put in payroll

Scam. Employers do not ask for money up front for background checks or payroll expenses. They are telling you to hurry as a sales tactic, so they can get your $60.00. Ignore them and go on with your legitimate job search. The proof is that they never even asked for your resume or references. They are a shell company without good intentions.
