What ever you choose both or fine it's depends on only quality link building. If you follow the correct way to promote the site/blog you will be good position into on niche web market no matter either blog nor site.
In present days some own website holders are not getting the results compare to blog owners as well as some blog owners are not getting the results and revenue compare to site holders. So, choose correct category, keywords, content as per niche market then go for blog or site then follow genuine link building tactics.

If you are in business then it is better to own your own domain name for your web presence. You can have your own blog pages attached and you will be taken more seriously by potential clients.
