A nation that fights for peace?

out of curiosity tell me your thoughts on this comment...

"If were a nation that prides our self on being a nation that fights for peace, why are we only fighting for the "freedom" of countries that can benefit us? Were ignoring Ghana and the other African Countries that need our help to fight for actual peace instead of the middle east that doesn't want us there. why? because they control the oil and oil is more beneficial to us. We don't fight wars for freedom or Peace anymore , its all about money. Capitalistic America loves money more then peace"

what are your thoughts on that?

Update:

This wasn't my opinion and I'm not saying I agree with it. It was the opinion of a fellow student of mine. Just wanted to clear that up.

Cause we can't be everywhere so we have to pick and choose what is best for US. This is not a negative to a rational thinking person.

Your argument is specious and falls apart when you examine the facts. We fought and won a war in Iraq and freed a nation from an evil and despotic ruler. And now we are committed to helping them defend their country while they institute a democratic form of government elected by the people.

You claim we are doing this for oil and profits. Where are the profits from a war that has cost us 100's of billions of dollars. Not to mention American lives. And as far as oil is concerned do you know how much free oil we have received from Iraq? 0 barrels. Yes that's right, none. Just like the rest of the world we have to pay market price for the oil we get from them.

As far as the war in Afghanistan, we freed a nation from an evil and despotic theocracy and are helping them to establish a democratic form of government elected by the people. And they have NO OIL.

America has fed and freed more people than any other country. We are the most charitable country in the world. We cannot save everybody. We will fight wars where we will benefit, it's called being smart.

Why don't we stop blaming America and recognize the good we have done.

Actually we do have soldiers in Africa (AFCOM) The middle East needed our assistance and when Saddam said he was not going to let us investigate for the WMDs (which they found 500 WMDs) he forced us to go to war with him, and Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the Sept 11 2001 attacks which is why we are in Afghanistan. My over all thoughts are that you are following the biased media garbage.

I think our entire economy YOURS and my way of life and our current living standard is based in oil and the economy that keeps us working is too.

I for one have no problem maintaining our base of power in the world our position in the world and our way of life fi that means some backwards third world tribe of ragheads who just happened to be lucky enough to be camped out on the oil when it was found need to be "removed" to do so then so be it.
