Can I translate and post on a blog something published in the 1930s?

I have a book in German that I need translated for a history project. I thought I might put the translation online to help other students if they ever need it, maybe even put it up to download. If I cite my source(s), am I fine?

Update:

Oh, and I'm doing the translation myself.

No. Germany is among the countries which recognizes the Berne Convention, where a lot of nations made their copyright laws align. You do not have the rights to the novel until it enters public domain, seventy years after the death of its author.

Giving credit to the original does not entitle you to use it in any way, including translation or public posting.
