Sprained Ankle+Volleyball=Ankle Brace?

Ok so Monday at volleyball practice during a little scrimage while going up to block when i came back down i stepped wrong on my foot. I like ttwisted it. I didnt hear a pop and just got right back up playing. So the next day i see its swollen and wrap it up. I go to the doc. Wed and get an x-ray. So i find out it's a sprain. Nothing major. So i've had to miss the rest of the weeks practice. ): So all i've been doing lately is RICE. Restind,Icing,Compression.&Elevation because i SO wanna start playing again Monday. Question is if it gets better (which im hoping) Should i buy ankle braces? i play middle hitter/blocker & hear that i should get them, but i also hear that your ankles can become weaker/dependent on them. PLease give me advice.?!!!

Its really up to you. I sprained both my ankles several times. I never missed practice. I just had the athletic trainer wrap my ankle for me. If your ankle is wrapped properly you should be able to play no problem but some things, like blocking and spiking, will be a little difficult until you acctually start moving and losen it up.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Active ankles, they do protect your ankles but just be careful. If you seriously fall and your ankle wont budge then the next thing to go is you're knee. Still, I would get the active ankles or even just one (they sell them individually!) for the ankle that you injured.

i would definitely invest in active ankles! i wear them and they help a lot. they support very well and don't allow your ankles to move around as much which is good. i play middle also and i always notice that i lad on my feet wrong. so i would definitely get them for protection and support :)

    Source(s): i use them!
  • if you wear ankle braces when you dont really need them, then your ankles may become weak and dependent on them. but since you hurt your ankle, i would consider getting them for the support

    Source(s): years of playing vball
