Science question taking medicine in different forms. Can you help?

Some pills or painkillers are administered in tablet form, whereas others in a powder or capsule form. This is also the cause with some harmful drugs – for example cocaine is used in powder form, whereas mandrax is sold in tablet form.

Identify a specific type of medication (or harmful drug), and explain why it is administered in that particular form, that is, specifically in a tablet, powder or capsule form. (10 marks)

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I have a basic idea of what to say, but cannot nearly write 10 marks of information.

Oxycodone is a potent opioid analgesic. As Oxycontin, it is administered in time-release tablets that release a small amount of medication immediately and the remainder over many hours. This results in a steady pain-relieving effect over a sustained period.

When abused, Oxycontin is often crushed and snorted. As a powder without the time-release tablet formulation, oxycodone can have an intense, heroin-like rush. In this form oxycodone can be dangerous both in terms of fostering addiction as well as risking overdose.

    Hope that helps.
