How does one become a TOP CONTRIBUTOR on the Y answers ?

To become a Top Contributor you just have to answer a lot of questions in a category, and receive best answers for them, and continue to do that to keep the badge. You just need to find a category that you like and know a lot about, and answer, answer and more answers in that category. Plus you need quality, as well as quantity in all your answers. Being a Top Contributor is not about the amount of points you have or which level you have reached, it is purely down to contribution in a category and the correct amount of best answers in that category.

You need to answer questions in 1 - 3 categories (best to just concentrate on 1 category to start with) and obtain 12% (or more, no one knows the correct figure) best answers in that category. The exact number of questions that you need to answer is also not known, but there have been suggestions that it might be 40 to 50 answers a week in just one category, you do not need to spend every waking hour on your computer to achieve those answers, just a couple of hours a day. The Top Contributor badge is awarded on a Monday and it will disappear on a Monday if you do not continue to contribute in the category that you received the badge.

You cannot be a Top Contributor in Polls & Surveys or Jokes & Riddles, although you could be the Top Yahoo Answers Answerer for those categories.

My experience (TC more than 13 times in different categories) says that you have to earn 21 best answers within 3 weeks to become a top contributor. You can lose the badge within 3 weeks if you don't receive BA's

You can become a top contributor on any level. It has nothing to do with how many points you have and on which level you are on.

Yahoo says that you can become a top contributor in only three categories but you can become in more. The fourth category in which you are a top contributor won't show up in your profile but if some one will move mouse over your avatar, it will show

There is a percentage, but it isn't stated.

Yahoo keeps the formula to themselves. Anyone who gives you a formula is just speculating.

They are reviewed weekly and can be lost if you do not put in the effort.

A 'TC' badge is a reward for RECENT performance (probably within the last 3 weeks), so answers older than that don't count for this recognition.

Some very experienced users here think you have to have gotten at least 20 BA's in a lowest-level category within the previous 3 calendar weeks, and have a BA% of at least 10% to earn one. (A calendar week runs from Monday morning to Sunday night).

The only way to tell how many BA's you have in a category is to keep track of them yourself - you can look through the 'answers' tab in your profile to count.

The best way to earn it is to concentrate on answering in up to three categories where you might have some knowledge. if you don't keep your percentage up you can lose the designation.

Get a few best answers ( I seem to recall it's 11% per category, but I could be wrong ) and answer a lot of questions in that category.

It takes a few weeks to come up and a few to disappear when you stop answering questions.
