Cat won't leave 'her' room?...?

Our cat (young adult female) was sick sometime back... lost a lot of weight and had a lot of sores/hair loss. She's all better now... looks great. But ever since she started eating again and such she hasn't wanted to leave the room her food/water and litterbox are in. She only leaves when carried out so the room can be cleaned... and then she sits outside till she can get back in.

I wonder if it is related to her illness or to the fact that our small house is very 'busy' (filled with kids)... but she was fine with the kids and noise before. Just before she was ill our older cat died (old age)... could she still be lonely/depressed that he is gone?

It just seems like such a sad existence... 'trapped' in a small room... but it is where she wants to be. Any thoughts on getting her to rejoin the family in a more cozy part of the house?

As long as the door to "her" room is always open, she's not "trapped". Apparently, with the loss of her "best friend", and then her illness......she's still a little "shell-shocked"....and prefers to be alone.

Leave her be.......and make sure that she's not "pestered" by the kids, while she's in "her" room. In time, she may feel comfortable enough to rejoin the family. But, this has to be HER decision.....so, just be patient with her.

Make the effort to spend some time with her each day, in the ( relative ) quiet of "her" room....and maybe, she'll come back to the family sooner.........

Hope she feels better soon.........Good luck.

Your cat may have found a new favorite place to hang around. We have a three-year-old kitty at home. He sometimes spends hours on the day bed outside the bedroom and he does that for a few days. There are days when he just stays inside the bedroom, too. Just let your cat be with himself. Play with him in the meantime. Prince sometimes hides under the day bed and the best way to make him get out of that is by showing him a moving string which he enjoys chasing.

Poor kitty sounds sad. Have you considered that she might need a new kitty friend? Kitties are social animals that like other kitties. Good luck and have patience.
