Bees that come out at night?

Lately I have had quite a few large bees flying around my porch light they are 2-3 inches and are all black with a yellow stinger they only come out at night does any one know what kind of bees they are.

    I've never heard of a nocturnal bee. I'd guess they are some kind of wasp, maybe pigeon horntails or something related. I strongly doubt that the "stinger" is a stinger. It's probably just an ovipositor that they use for depositing eggs.

    You need to positively identify them, if they are carpenter bees they could be silently destroying your house.
