Does crate trained mean potty trained?
I was wondering. I was looking at dogs at a shelter and one of them said "crate trained". It also said the dog was ok in it at night. Does that mean the dog is potty trained or are just that it won't get pissed off if it goes in there for a few hours? Thanks.

Crate trained means he will sleep there for a reasonable night rest without fussing and crying, He will need to go potty both before and after his sleep time. It does not mean you can keep him there or put him there when it is not convenient for you to walk or pay attention to him. Dogs do not like to sleep where thy go potty, so he has learned to hold it through the night. If he is used to going out at 8am you can not oversleep until 9;30 and expect him to be quiet and happy about it. Neither will he let you shove him in there if you need a 1pm nap. You still have to be a reasonable pet owner. Basically if you leave the door open they will go in when they know it is time. You can close the door when you get ready and they will sleep quietly through the night and after day light they will begin to let you know when they are awake. If they see you or hear you or smell cooking they will let you know some how that they are ready to go out. Potty training is another thing. Some dogs will let you know when they need to go out and others you need to be more responsible and take them out by a certain time and they will oblige you by relieving their self at that time.

Crate training is used as a method of potty training. The dog learns to hold its bladder because they don't like to make messes in their crate. The crate becomes a place where the dog feels secure. If you are thinking of adopting this dog have the shelter clarify.

Crate trained means the dog has been trained to go into a crate for a couple of hours when you can't watch it. A dog can be crate trained but not potty trained, because most dogs won't sleep where they pee.

crate trained generally means the dog was placed in the crate to avoid it from having accidents in the areas outside of the crate like on your living room floor for example! and yes it does also mean the dog will be ok staying in the crate for a couple of hours, which is good cause then he can't hurt himself or chew stuff he isn't suppose to!

A crate trained dog is comfortable in a crate and identifies it as their den and therefore will not potty in the crate. A crate trained dog is not necessarily fully housetrained.

My puppy uses his crate as his own little world especially at bedtime. For his safety he can be confined in the crate when I have to leave him home alone. Being he is 3 months old it is necessary for short periods of time depending on how much running I have to do on any given day. He is 95% house trained, but does not soil his crate, still has occasional accidents. My interpretation is he is being crate trained to help with house breaking. He has never been allowed total run of house.

I've had puppies my complete lifestyles and I under no circumstances crate proficient till this one. It's well to do it. You also are having disorders for the reason that it sounds such as you obtained your puppies even as. It's fine to get one, educate it and permit it's within the residence for a minimum of a yr then get an extra puppy for the reason that they be taught bigger one after the other and likewise they do not get "percent mentality". Also, the moment you'll be taught from the primary one. I'd get 2 crates and feature them part by means of part while you are long gone. When you get residence, I'd take them out each and every two hours so that they get the flow. If they're meals influenced, somewhat deal with would not harm so long as you hold it small. Good success. EDIT: I see that any individual has urged potty pads. Not to be disrespectful however when you desire your puppies to move external, don't confuse them by means of permitting them to move on those pad within. You both move with the pads within or they move external, no longer each. That relatively confuses them extra.

Could be, or it could just mean the dog does not go in the crate. But most dogs will have an accident or two when entereing a new home :o)

The owner of the dog needs to know how to "operate" the dog, same way you can get into a car that's in perfect running order but if you don't know how to drive you won't have much luck making the car go anywhere. If the owner doesn't know how to maintain the training, the dog will soon become untrained again. Read more here https://tr.im/7q5sH
People seem to think that once a dog is trained, that's it. Not true. You must reinforce the dog's training every single day in some way. It's best if the owner and the dog go together to get trained. As a professional trainer once said to me "We can train any dog in 2 days. It takes longer to train the owners
