Kidney failure and the mind, is this normal?

Is it normal when someone has kidney failure, for them to have a hard time remembering things, not being able to pay attention, and having trouble concentrating (attention span shortened) ?

Often people with kidney failure have used caffeine in the past to try and remember things. Kind of goes with the territory.

Yes, it is quite common. There are toxins that build up in the blood and cause all kinds of issues with cognition and mental health. In fact, in late state renal failure, the patients are often euphoric.. meaning kind of 'high' and just babble on incoherently. Google for renal failure and dementia and you'll find some interesting studies.
