why is pokemon so popular?

It's a strategy game with cute and interesting animal designs. The battle system is very basic and easy to understand, but it can still be difficult to win certain fights. While Pokemon is far from perfect, it is an excellent time-killer and a lot of fun to play.

In my honest opinion, most "gun and shooting" games are boring. They're all the same.

It's an interesting, simple RPG concept. The animals are intriguing, powerful, and boast a wide variety of abilities. It's not the typical medieval RPG. The "Gotta catch em all" concept gives a wide but not too overwhelming goal. You can trade with friends and it encourages interaction.

You sound like a FPS player, this game is an RPG. You may not have an interest for RPGs. OR if you do like RPGs, you don't like medieval type ones, but only the ones that have guns.

Simple, everyone has a different taste and opinion.
