John Coltrane fans, did you know that September 23 is his birthday? AND....?

On the great radio station WKCR, they will be celebrating his birthday (the entire 24 hours) by playing only John Coltrane music.

PS- If you listen to this station, you should give money when they have their rare fund raisers. All the djs are volunteers. They run on a very low budget, which includes no sponsors, and therefore no commercials, ever. The money is used only so that they can continue to play real jazz (and other great music too).

I am listening to it already and have been for several hours, but not until enjoying a dozen or so videos on Jazz on the Tube http://www.jazzonthetube.com/ that were as broad in scope as well as amazing; my favorite has to be the rare collaboration of Stan Getz and Oscar Peterson with John William's tenor and Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. Take a couple of minutes to watch some video of John, too; I've been studying him nearly thirty years and still am just as blown away now as I was in my 'teens.
