Wanting to be more of a "girlie" girl...?

I consider myself a semi-decent looking woman in her mid 40's, but have never been much on wearing make-up and such. I normally wear foundation, blush & mascara to work ( I'm in a doctor's office all day) but would like to experiement with a little more for evenings & such. Also, I have some mild scarring on my face from an auto accident in the 80's & really need a better foundation to wear than just the cheapo stuff from the drug store. Any suggestions?? I have green eyes & normally wear peachy tones & browns. Thanks!

Update:

Not a mid-life crisis, just wanting to know what foundations others like & what other products they can suggest.

If you go into a shopping centre (mall) do you have places where there is a make up counter and a seat next to it? Usually if you go to one of the ladies at these counters they could recommend a make-up and do a skin colour test to see what colour matches your face.. splash out on a more expensive one :) Over in the UK, we can get it done in the likes of Boots.
