HELP! 27 years old, 2 periods a month with severe cramping.....ablation or hysterectomy? possible TMI?

Ok, I have 2 appts. with two gynos next week but thought I would see if anyone had first hand experience. I have always had short cycles (about 21-26 days) with heavy bleeding and SEVERE cramps. I gave birth to my 3rd and last baby 6 months ago and since my periods restarted (about 8 weeks after he was born) my periods have been coming every 16-18 days apart. My periods last between 5-8 days, so you can imagine how frustrating it is to feel I am on a never ending period! :( Before my so,n I ALWAYS knew when my period was coming because I would cramp so bad days before. NOW, I don't get cramps until about the last day or so and it is SOOOOO bad I can barely go to the bathroom without wanting to pass out..(sorry TMI) I know I am done having children but because you still get your period with a tubal, that is not an option for me. I will be talking to the dr.s about an endometrial ablation or a partial hysterectomy. Have any of you had these procedures, and have you had them this young? What are your thoughts on the subject?

Update:

HOLY CRAP!!! Thanks for the articles!!! :)

I wound check to see any other options before a hysterectomy, being they are indeed often unnecessary, can wreak havoc with your hormones and body, and you just might change your mind about kids (who knows?)

at the same time, if it's the only option when all info is on the table, it's not such a bad thing. Some women have them by choice. My co-worker had one at 26 (after five kids) had no regrets and no problems. She did it because she and her husband figured five kids was good and because she was having cramping issues.

It really depends on the cause. If there are no tumors/fibroid, maybe ablation. Ablation has worked well for a friend of mine. If the Docs say you need a hysterectomy, then they mean it. Get both Dr's opinions and weigh the options then.

Although the ? has already been answered, I wanted to comment b/c I had hystorectomy at 27. I'm now a "bit" older & regret not pursuing other possible options, Drs, etc. It was just the quickest & easiest solution for me, as a single mom, at the time. I'm not suggesting it's what you're doing, but please, exhaust all other options before making an irreversable choice at 27. But I was in hosp for 4 days, back on my feet almost 100% in 2 weeks & no more pain from repeated cysts or scar tissue from surgeries removing them! Good luck ;)

  • NO, DON'T DO IT. KEEP GETTING SECOND OPINIONS TILL THEY STOP ADVISING SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rawr

Doctors jump to conclusions with that **** all the time. Hysterectomies are the most common unnecessary operation out there.
