There are two versions of Linux Mint: Linux Mint 9 and Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE).
Linux Mint 9 is based on Ubuntu. It normally comes with the Gnome desktop manager, but they offer other desktop managers as well; KDE, Xfce, Fluxbox and LXDE. If you do not like the Gnome desktop manager, you can choose any of these other desktop managers instead. There are links to the websites of each of these desktop managers at the bottom of this page: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
Linux Mint Debian Edition is based on Debian. It is an experimental release. It comes only with the Gnome desktop manager.
If you are doubting what to install, simply download the standard version of either CD or DVD.

i've got confidence the usual consensus is that "rolling releases" are greater concern to breaking in the time of updates / improvements. And if I remember wisely, there are particular warnings on the Mint LMDE webpages. The LMDE is way less good and greater services to issues - which you will would desire to repair in the past you have the means to run your gadget - so except you're extremely soft with Linux and troubleshooting from the command line, you will be happier with the known Mint 14.x fairly than LMDE. you are able to installation them the two, and turn between them as you like - if so vulnerable. it is how my gadget is desperate up suitable now.
