Why does green day do the the two songs in one thing on american idiot?
In the album american idiot they have songs like extraordinary girl/ letter bomb of give me Novocaine / Shes a rebel etc.

They're separate songs, they're written separately. The only things that link them together is the story line, and the fact that there's no gap in between, the songs flow together.
There's no special reason for doing this, that's what a lot of concept albums do, it makes the album seem continuous instead of just a bunch of songs.

It's a rock opera, all of the songs come together to tell one story.
