Hi! Question on studying abroad in Australia!?

Hi, I was wondering if some Aussies could help me out!

I’m from the U.S. (North Dakota) and I’m going to be studying abroad next semester (from February to June) in Australia! I’ve narrowed down my choices to Cairns (James Cook University) and Macquarie University in Sydney with Cairns being my first choice. I have a few questions though.

What are the beaches like in Cairns and Sydney? Do they differ much?

I plan on going bungy jumping while I’m there as well as exploring the Barrier Reef but I was just wondering what there was to do in my down time.

I was also hoping to find some kind of employment while I’m there. I’m a psych major in my final year and was wondering if it’s likely that I’d find employment.

Thanks so much for any info you can give me and I'm really excited to go!

Beaches are north of the town but the environment of Cairns is much better. Most universities have quite active social clubs that are into sports of all kinds here so you should have no problems with the activities you are interested in.All lot overseas students coming to Australia throw themselves into their study without balancing it with the need for some sort of a sound social life.If you are living at home with family workout your itinerary with them before you go.You will find plenty to do in your downtime

and as for employment you should be o.k.as most universities here have.notice boards where jobs are advertised.Check out online the Queensland Tourist Bureau and find out about day trips.Oh and two warnings always when exploring the Great Barrier Reef never ignore the safety warnings on any Australian beach and remember we drive on the left hand side of the road. As for Australian wildlife

red kangaroos are not such nice guys.

Source(s): Holidays in Queensland the sunshine state.Have a good time and study.

Psychology is best studied at Macquarie - JCU is best if you are studying marine biology, not much else. You should be able to find some PT work in a cafe etc - but work in your area of interest - not at all. Cairns itself does not have beaches you can swim at - you have to go north of the town to go to the beach. There are many beaches in Sydney but not near MU.
