Labor on this job for both banks calls for 8.0 hours, parts require a head gasket set@ 185.00 it is recommended to replace the head bolts because these are torque to yield bolts (they stretch) they are 45.00 add coolant, oil change, and misc.shop supplies, machine shop work, tax and you are looking at about $1150.00 out the door!

i own a repair shop, and been at this for 36 yrs,,if it has blown a head gasket it my have coolant in the oil,,this doesn't happen all the time though, it can blow on an out side water jacket, and not mix it with the oil,,if it was real bad over full id drop the oil out of it,and see what it looks like,,and also make note of how much comes out of it,,head gaskets can blow in different ways and either way they will cause a lose of coolant,it just may not go in the oil,it may try and burn it out causing a white smoke to come from the exhaust pipe, but before i spent any money on it,,id check it out better and be sure about it,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

The head gasket itself is about $40. The labor to do the job is closer to $600 for a good mechanic. Plus you have to change both the oil and coolant and that's extra as well. My dad's old 98 Caravan had the same problem.

Before you spend your hard earned cash be sure that it's a head gasket by doing some tests, like a leak down test or get your coolant checked for signs of exhaust gasses.

usualy about $2000 its very important that you get a good mechanic shop to do it for you.there is a lot of details to a head job that most dont consider but are very important.Alot of people just call autozone find out the gasket is only $80 they think rite away this wont cost much.but you always want to have the head at least resurfaced( v type blocks you should do both)then you probly have about 80000 thousand milesish on your engine so you will be replacing coolant misc seals and gaskets plugs wires stuff like that to do it correctly.be very weary about people that tell you otherwise.hope this helped.
