Just started wearing mouthguard again, help?

So my boyfriend's been complaining that I've been grinding my teeth a lot at night, so last night I decided to wear my mouthguard, even though I haven't worn it in over a year because it used to give me a sore throat (kept my mouth open at night).

This morning I woke up and I am in complete agony, my bottom front teeth are killing me from wearing the mouthguard and I don't know why. It did feel pretty tight on my teeth, could that be the reason? Anyone know what I can do? thanks.

Yeah, that the guard fit so tightly could cause the pain in your lower teeth. After not wearing the guard for a year, your teeth have probably moved slightly, and that's why the guard is so tight. You can try wearing it for several days to see if your teeth "move back," but I would suggest you visit your dentist and ask her/him to adjust your guard to fit more comfortably. Just don't forget to bring it with you!

Take some Motrin for the discomfort. I guess it doesn't fit well after a year and if it is custom, then you may want to get a new one made. Talk to your dentist.
