My 7year old son had a scooter oopsie today. He was comming fast down a hill, our neighbor went infront of him on his bike. they didn't crash but my son tumbled off head over heals and has road rash on his face. What can I put on it to prevent scarring?

A few things on top of that, since it doesn't touch on the topic of scarring much, is that if it is actual road rash, I hope you vigorously made sure it won't get infected (lots of cleaning). It has been shown that sunlight on a healing wound can cause scarring, so, for a while anyway, no sunbathing or running around the beach all day. Most road rash is superficial enough and the healing on the face should be fast due to decent blood supply. I doubt your son will get any severe scars. I'd personally call your practicing physician, though, to be sure.
Source(s): Have had all kinds of road rash with nary a scar, except for one that became infected. That wasn't road rash, though, but actually a friction burn where it was too painful to remove the debris in the wound. - 1 decade ago
