rabies vaccine reaction?

Question

Three days ago my 10lb chihuahua was given a 3 year vaccine for rabies. She has been sick ever since. She is lethargic (won't get out of bed), has a fever, and hasn't eaten. She did take a little food yesterday, but vomited and had diarrea (sp?)  I have to carry her downstairs to go out and potty. She only received that vaccine. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I don't think I will EVER give her another rabies vaccine, even though it's required by law, I will get an exempt letter from the vet. She never had a reaction before but was only given a 1 year booster in the past. I can't believe that every dog is given the same amount of vaccine...1ml. She got the same amount as my 70lb german shepard. Ridiculous.

I completely understand your concern, same thing happened to my dog(16lbs shi-tzu mix). It was so sad... But the best thing to do is to go back to the vet, explain to the doctor everything that was going on with your baby the past 3 days. Don't take to long to go 'cause you dog my get dehydrate and your problems are only going to get worse. My dog is doing great now, but she did need a re-hydration shot and lots of rest. she was good as new within 2 days.
I know you are mad and frustrated, but right now focus on getting your furry friend healthy again, than you figure what to do about the shot.

First off, there is NO DIFFERENCE between the shot given for a one-year and a three-year. It is the exact same shot; the categorization lies in the documentation. The dog will get a one-year vaccine if it has been more than a year since the last rabies shot, with the exception of certain states and their specific laws. The dog will get a three-year vaccine if it has been more than eight months, but less than a full year since the last one, again excepting some state laws.

In my 12 years experience I never heard or seen such thing. Hope it was anti rabies vaccine and you pet did not make any mistake. It may be different thing that coincide with vaccination. Did you de wormed your dog before vaccination? I think your dog is suffering from any intestine infection ( omitting the chance of distemper or purvo or liver infection). 

Do not wait long time consult your vet immediately if vomit or stool has tinge of blood.

Most vaccines contain adjuvants designed to boost the immune response to the vaccines. Many adverse reactions are associated with reactions to these adjuvants. -- Adverse reactions usually occur because of a harmful immune-mediated reaction to either the vaccine immunogen itself or to the vaccine adjuvant.

I'd get back in touch with the vet who administered the shot, see what their opinion is. My opinion is that it's just an extremely unlucky reaction to the adjuvent used in the shot for your dog and after 2-4 days the problems should subside... But i'm no expert! so you should actually go and talk to one.

Have you called the VET as the dog can die from an allergic reaction from this vaccine..Please call now and get the dog in to be treated..I had a reaction happen 1x and never did it again after they had all their puppy shots..

take her straight back to the vet and complete a rabies reaction form. Then get in writing a medical exemption from your vet based on this Reaction.

Vaccines do not work by weight for one. Also you should be contacting your Vet & getting her in to be seen ASAP!! It may have nothing to do with the vaccine. Either way a VET should be in order.

That's NOT the vaccine!
Amount injected is completely IMMATERIAL!!!!!
*MIGHT* by sensitive to the MEDIUM....not the actual vaccine.
