My Dell 6000 laptop will load the BIOS screen then go to black and stay there. Help?

The computer did not undergo any changes when this started happening. I do not have the disks anymore either but I do have access to another computer where I can download files and burn a disk. I have tried starting in safe mode and enabling VGA but it still goes to the black screen. Nothing I do seems to work. Please help.

Update:

I just ran the extended diagnostic test. Everything passed.

This is hard to troubleshoot remotely, but it sounds like Windows is starting to load up, which means it most likely isn't an issue with your motherboard (or video card).

Most Dell laptops have a pre-boot diagnostics which may help troubleshoot the problem. To access this, turn off your laptop, then hold the FN key (by the left CTRL key) and tap the power button. Keep holding the FN key for about 15 seconds.

Dell laptops aren't great, but their warranty support is better than many other companies. Give them a call 1-877-293-1197

once you start up your laptop, wait till there's a show screen with techniques interior the corner. It says issues like press F1 for... or press F2 for...and so on. click the corresponding key for "equipment fix" or something like that. fix the equipment to an earlier date the place it became working. desire that helps!
