do i need to use glue or tape on pvc threads?

should I use glue or tape on threads of pvc that will be used as a drain for a bathroom sink?

Or is it protocol to simply screw everything together?

Update:

I should have mentioned that it is the drain that goes in the wall. I am replacing the old galvanized pipe.

If you are talking about the p trap under the sink there should be a plastic washer that goes under the nut. No glue or tape is needed on these fittings.

If it is a theaded fitting onto the galvonized pipe then yes there you would use tape or paste on the joint.

Never glue the threads on pvc pipe. You might have to take it apart again. Use the tape on the threads. Regards, Dale

If its a generic brand. a teflon tape will do. Other specialty brands will require heat and solvent.

No to both hand tighten the fittings and you'll be good to go.
