DSL download speed / upload speed question?

My family is about to get 3 Mbps DSL internet and I was going over the contract we are considering signing. It says that the maximum download speed is 3 Mb, and the upload speed is a maximum of 512 kbps. I was just wondering if these numbers will cause a high latency in our connection. I want to play games online but I know it won't be possible with a high ping even if our internet is 3 mbps. This company is really our only choice because I live in a smaller town, I was just curious as to whether we are going to experience any aweful latency issues. Thanks for your help.

Latency depends on the distance from the server and the other things your doing on the same Internet connection at the time. The download and upload speeds, so long as they are above the required minimums (and yours are) will not affect the latency significantly.

Speed has nothing to do with latency. you wont know that till you have it and test it. latencey is based off of network traffic, hops, and how far away your connecting to.
