Help with computer game system requirements?
So recently I got a laptop. I didn't buy it specifically for gaming (I'm going to use it for Uni), but I was hoping to get one or two old-ish games installed.
However, I'm sort of a techno-tard and I don't really get stuff to do with system requirements. My laptop easily meets the requirements for stuff like RAM for the game I want, but I don't get the processor thing.
The recommended requirements say it wants a Pentium 4 processor 3GHz or better. My processor is an AMD something something dual core processor 2.1GHz. At first I thought "that's that then, I won't get it," but then someone told me that, since my processor is dual core, it should be able to handle it. He said that if a system requirements thing for a game doesn't say dual core processor, then any dual core processor should be able to manage it. Is this guy right? Will my laptop run this game OK (it definitely meets all the other system requirements)?
Oh and one more thing. The game also wants a Directx 9 level graphics card. When I do a dxdiag thing it says my computer Directx level is 11, but I don't know if that means my graphics card is at that level.
Thanks for reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, your laptop should run that game just fine. Directx 11 I believe is the most up to date version of directx, and all previous versions of directx should be already installed. In case the old Directx's weren't installed, the game you want to install should it free for you.
I may be wrong on this, but whenever we are talking about multicores, we multiply the amount of Ghz by the amount of cores we have. So yours should be 4.2ghz total- that's more than enough to handle that game. Not all games utilize multicore processors, most games should be able to run with multicore processors but just not as efficient as it could be if it was made for multicore.
So bottom line is- yes, your computer should be able to run the game. More importantly is the Operating system the game was made to run on. If it was for win98, and you have windows Vista, you may have some problems because its simply too new of an OS. If its something like xp, then it should work fine for vista and win7.

The game should run fine with a dual core if the requirements only mention a single. A single core means that you'll have 1 3GHz core running, while the dual core will have 2 2.1GHz, or essentially 4.2GHz, give or take.
And if your computer has DirectX 11, then it'll easily be able to run a DirectX 9 game.

it depends on a lot of things. might help to know exactly which game you're trying to play. ...if your problem is installing it. loading/starting it. or it crashing while playing. ...also knowing the game, and what OS you're running may be an issue.
if it's a really old game... may not jive with a more modern OS.
also... laptops are never great for gaming, most use shared memory for graphics. ...ie if the game requires dedicated GPU or 3D graphics processing. and you're just barely skating by with RAM requirements... that's prob your more likely culprit for failure.
dx11 is better than dx9 so you're fine there.
also... sometimes sound borks games. onboard sound is always junk. some games wig out because ... RAM covering... graphics and sound processing. plus the OS and the game... lead to bork.
but... the CPU should be fine. basically. 1 p4 at 3ghz is less than 2 amd processors at 2ghz each. that's what dual core is. 2 processors. ...so you've got 2 @ 2ghz ...which equals 4. and dual core is more modern than intel p4. so you should be fine there. there may also be a slight issue... if it's a game designed for intel chipset... running on an AMD system. but that's not likely
try running the game in compatibility mode. right click the icon... look for. "run as" or compatibility mode.
or just research your game... ie google "how to make my x run on this OS"

Go to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srte... with that laptop and let the site analyze the computer and tell you whether it'll run the game.
(If the computer is DirectX 11, it definitely meets DirectX 9 spec - it means DirectX 9 or later.)

dual core means you've got 2 processors, thats a total of 4.2 GHz,
you could make sure that the game will work on your laptop using this website: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/
u should check it before buying the game, bec u could have an underperforming graphics card
