Only because they can't hide under them when a great galumphing human comes along and spoils their fun while they're looking for a shag!

No ones quite sure, its an old wives tale that comes in and out of fashion. Its never been proven either way but some people think its because Conkers contain a chemical that spiders don't like.

I've just spoken to the large brown spider that lives behind my wardrobe and no its not true, just a silly rumour.
